Sarah Linhares

Sarah Linhares began her love affair with music at an early age by singing in her church choir. Since then, her musical inspiration has been continually shaped by an obsession with electronic music, participating in gospel choirs, and performing and dancing to Afro-Brazilian Samba.

In 2006, this Portuguese-Irish Montrealer delved deeper into songwriting and vocal training. She has held an artist residency in a mountainside studio in Venezuela, participated in the invite- only 2007 Red Bull Music Academy, released her first solo EP in 2009 on Public Transit Recordings (garnering praise from academic Richard Florida), and was featured on 2010’s Cosmopolyphonic label compilation with Japanese beat maestro mfp in 2010. Sarah’s performed at the Manifesto Festival, Francofolies, MUTEK, Harbourfront Toronto, and RBMA.

This year, Sarah plans to release Messages From The Future, her debut solo full-length future soul album. Expect a blend of raw soul vocals and gospel-inspired harmonies, dirty electronic beats, heavy synthesizers, thick basslines, and cosmic dust processed with an 8-bit touch. The record features collaborations with several talented producers such as Moonstarr, Sikh Knowledge, Think Twice, Kenlo, Camplaix, and musicians such as celebrated pianist David Ryshpan and bassist Mark Haynes.
